An HIV/aids awareness project in collaboration with the Dutch National Youth Council and Plan Netherlands. Young people in Holland were invited to create a (theatrical) performance about HIV/aids. The organization and promotion of the performances is done by the young groups themselves. Selected groups moved on towards the final held in a big venue in Utrecht, Netherlands. During the approach to the final I organised various masterclasses, where the groups learned more about stage appearance. Winners of the Dutch competition were taken to Kenya where they worked together with young Kenyan artists. This collaboration resulted in a short theatrical musical. Apart from shows in Nairobi and other cities we visited local community theatre groups and a home for HIV/aids positive orphans. Two weeks after the shows in Kenya were behind us, 17 young Kenyan artists came to Holland for another two weeks of performances throughout Holland. We ended with a highly entertaining African showcase in theatre Muiderpoort (Amsterdam). This evening many other African artists joined to celebrate the succes of the Xpress Your Future project. Xpress your Future hopes to raise awareness concerning HIV/aids. By using peer-to-peer education and artistic expression both participants and audience learn HIV/aids is a worldwide problem, that we must face as people united all over the world.
